Then there was another cache that Sister did on her own while I
waited in a coffee shop to get breakfast for us all. I wait, and wait
and wait and finally I start walking to where I saw her headed. My
phone rings. It's Sister telling me she is behind me - she took the
alley instead of coming back the way she came!!
On the way
back to the hotel, we decide to try to find the one we couldn't locate
the day before. Still no luck! Oh well, we are getting hungry so we
hightail it back. We find Mom sitting on the bed, reading. She's up,
washed, dressed and has had breakfast in the lobby!! The manager and
her have apparently become fast friends because he teased her about
getting milk for her.
After we clean up and pack the car,
we go to the Museum of the West right there in Grand Junction. It was
really interesting. Apparently there was Uranium mined in the area -
which involved it with the Manhattan Project. They had remnants of an
Opera House and a bar - an old telephone booth and an exhibition of
baseball bats. There was an old stagecoach that you could climb into
and it had a recording of a driver and horses. It was pretty easy to
get into, with steps and a rail. The plane, however, was another thing
altogether! It was a 2 seater prop plane and you could get into the
pilot's seat. It also had a recording but it told you to push buttons
or pull levers to simulate a takeoff and landing. Believe it or not,
all 3 of us got in and more importantly, got out!!! An old fire engine had a wheel that you could turn to simulate an old fire siren. There was also a tower (it looked like a fire tower) that you could climb to see wonderful views of the area.
We got on the road and
after a bit, got hungry so we stopped at a place called Taco Time. Mom
doesn't like Mexican but they had a really nice Taco Salad that we all
liked.
After we ate, we needed to use the facilities but couldn't find
them. We finally asked .... you had to go to the outside of the
building and into a dark hallway! Too much. We took turns guarding the
purses and the hallway. Mom, of course, saw a Thrift Store across the
street so we had to go. We got a parking space right in front and what
is leaning against a tree but a 9 point deer head!!! Sister wanted it
but wondered how she'd get it home. Mom and I both said "Ship it!" but
she left it. I got a great pair of Teva shoes for $7!! Can you
imagine? I also got 2 pair of shorts and a sleeveless top. When I'd
packed for the trip I only brought long pants and long sleeved tops. It
was in the 80s each day so far. I'd had enough. Sister got an
interesting 'sculpture' ??? It was 3 metal arrows welded together in
the middle to form a tripod and the middle was wrapped with twine. It
was cool. Mom picked up a pillow so she could sleep in the car while we
were driving.
While traveling, we stopped a few more times
for scenic views but essentially drove straight to Cortez.
After we
checked into the hotel, we decided we were hungry and saw a Denny's
across the highway. It was quick and easy so I said I'd get the car.
Mom said no, she could walk across. Sister and I looked at each other
but went along with her. When we got to the highway, we each took one
of Mom's elbows and started to walk. To our surprise, Mom was
practically running across the road. I started laughing so hard I
couldn't breathe!!! Between the difference in her walk from normal and
my vision of Sister and I 'perp-walking' our Mom across the road, it was
too much. You see, Mom walks with a cane and is very careful where she
puts her feet - to see her literally running between us was ....
unusual, to say the least!
Dinner was a giddy affair and
very pleasant. We 'perp-walked' Mom back across the highway and settled
in for the night. I do not remember even trying to fall asleep, I was
out! Here are a few things I've been working on since I returned. I now have a display at Mind of Light Studios in St Petersburg, FL where some of my intuitive based items are for sale. I participate in the monthly trunk shows and am also a Reiki Master practitioner at the studio. Who says retirement is a time to slow down???? Not me!!!
I'll try to get day 3 of our trip up next week. Hope you got a few laughs and enjoy the holidays.
